Cast Iron Skillet-Handle Cover

Cast Iron Skillets are a great cooking tool. My family uses them mostly for Swedish pancakes. The only problem is that the handle can get really hot! They sell covers in the store but, I have never wanted to spend the money. This is what I came up with, it is cute and it works great.
Items needed:
5"x5" scrap piece of cotton fabric
5"x5" scrap piece of warm and natural cotton batting or warm and natural insul-bright insulation
Pins
Piece of paper
marker

Step#1
Trace the handle of a cast iron pan. Add 1" to the pattern.

Step #2
Cut out 2 pieces of fabric and 2 pieces of batting

Step # 3
Pin the fabric to the batting right sides together

Step #4
Sew 1/4" across the bottom of handle.( I used my serger, but a sewing machine works as well) Turn the fabric to right side and Iron

Step #5
pin both handles right sides together. Sew 1/4" together leaving bottom of the handle open.

Step #6
Turn to the right side out. Iron. Put on skillet handle and enjoy!

Coasters-Family Style

I failed at getting my grandparent's Christmas present safely delivered to their door by Christmas Eve. It's a long story but here I am closer to St. Patty's day than Christmas and I am just getting their present completed and shipped. I made them coasters with family pictures (mostly ancestors).
First, find some small tiles at the local home improvement store and print some pictures to fit in the squares. I suggest using card stock. I didn't and my paper didn't stay smooth when I applied the Mod Podge.

Using a sponge brush apply the mod podge to adhere the picture to the tile. Coat as many times as you like and then let dry. When completely dry spray a couple of coats of Mod Podge sealer and you are done.

Old Sweater into New Scarf

I thought I better post this before the need for a cozy scarf is obsolete. (Let's hope that day comes quickly. I can't wait until spring.) I made this Scarf sometime in December and of course did not take pictures of the step-by-step process, but never fear some one else did!

Anyway, here is a detailed TUTORIAL on how you can make your own Cowl Neck Scarf.

Exercise Game for Kids

I saw an idea for an exercise game on UCREATE WITH KIDS, so I made one for my family. Ucreate is one of my favorite sites for activities/crafts to do with your children. Just throw the bean bag at the game board to determine what's next. We try to play every night before we read our scriptures. The boys are loving it and getting super BUFF!!

Fabulous Flowers

If you didn't get the jewelry and flowers you were hoping for this Valentine's Day, my advice is to make your own! Here are some of my favorite flower/accessory projects.
For the project above, I used a broken strand of faux pearls and the rest of the stuff in the picture below.
For the middle flower I cut out four small circles in diminishing size from the satin ribbon. I burned the edges and then glued them on top of each other, added the pearl, and then glued them onto my necklace.

The ribbon that I chose for this project has wire in it. For the other two flowers, I first cut the ribbon in half (long ways or hot dog style as my kids call it). Then I cut four strips, once again in diminishing sizes of width and length.
The edges will once again need to be burned to avoid fraying. Next, I pulled the wire out of each side and then pushed the ribbon down creating a ruffle. Then I glued the detached sides together twisted the wire and cut the excess wire off.
I continued this step for each ribbon strip and then glued the smaller one into the next biggest one, finally adding the pearl and attaching them to my strand of pearls with the glue gun.
Here is another way you can wear your new creation.
At the mall this weekend I noticed that the ZIPPER Flower is making a lot of appearances in the fashion world. I found an adorable wallet at Macy's with a zipper flower that I just had to imitate. So, I bought a $2 hat at TJ Maxx and attached my version of the Macy's Wallet Zipper Flower. Unfortunately, I didn't take pictures of how to create this little gem. However, I found a tutorial that is very close to what I did. She also has a few other fantastic zipper ideas.

Below is the Chrysi felt flower. I love making smaller versions for little girl's hair clips. Again click HERE for more info.

Favorite Valentine

I've searched the blogosphere both high, low, near, and far, and this is my favorite Valentine of 2011. LOVE JUICE! I stole it from my cousin's blog, who stole it from another's blog. I made some "LJ" for each of my son's classmates and also for my primary class. Follow my cousin's LINK to discover how to print labels for your own LOVE JUICE. Or if by chance your children break your printer, the printer you just spent $45 replacing the ink for, right in the middle of this project, you could always draw your own labels too. JUST SAYIN'!
